Celebrity Endorsement Is Not Always A Good Thing
It look’s like we’ve gone into marketing analysis overdrive here at Hub Internet Media, I know, but you can blame Tom for that! I noticed that Range Rovers latest offering (the Evoque) is apparently receiving, or is going to receive some of it’s styling from a well known celebrity… Victoria Beckham. Why? I have no idea. And neither does anyone else, probably. This is one of those occasions that has me stumped. The Beckhams are popular, but using this as a marketing tool? I’m not so sure. It strikes me that the Evoque is in danger of becoming a Chelsea Special, bought only by people in affluent areas who earn more money than is sensible. Maybe that’s what Range Rover are aiming for. I hope not; if so they’ll have done a fantastic job of alienating a lot of prospective customers. That, to me, is bad marketing.
For an example of really well done celebrity endorsement I give you this:
That is how to do it. Get someone everyone loves, everyone knows, and get them to be themselves in the context of your product. Awesome stuff.
