Are You Protected?

If you’re not an experienced PC user, the chances are you’ll have some form of anti-virus software installed. Hell, even if you ARE an experienced PC user, you’ll probably have some kind of anti-virus software installed. A lot of people buy a pre-built PC from a large store or online, and have it packed full of software right from the word go. There are fantastic deals to be had in most PC stores; you can walk away with Windows 7 or Microsoft Office at a much reduced cost to that charged by other shops as standalone software. Something that is also included in this initital setup by everyone is anti-virus.

Anti-virus is important. It’s your protection against the many threats that lurk online. A mis-click here, an ill-informed download there, next thing you know your PC is out of action, your credit card has been maxed out by someone you don’t even know and your online banking details are on someone else’s machine. Anti-virus is essential, but it doesn’t have to be obnoxious and obvious. It’s prefectly possible to have a free, unobtrusive, efficient anti-virus program. Personally, I use Avast!. It’s not big, it’s not loud, it doesn’t fill my screen with notifications every 5 minutes, it just sits in my desktop tray monitoring my incoming mail and internet browser, keeping my PC safe from harm. Another popular free anti-virus is AVG, which is also relatively lightweight and unobtrusive.

So what are you waiting for? Get yourself a good, free anti-virus!
