What does your Twitter say about you?

If you’ve left it plain, with the default background and colours, I’m afraid it says uncomplimentary things behind your back, probably with nudges and disapproving looks. Twitter isn’t Facebook. It’s not a site where everyone’s page looks the same. In terms of customisation, Twitter is pretty high up the food chain. You can change the background, the text colour, the text box colour, your logo/profile picture, the lot. And while some people say “just because you can doesn’t mean you should”, in this case you absolutely should. You’ve been given all of these options for a reason after all. Making your Twitter page you’re own is a simple process, but it’s amazing how few people go through the effort of doing it. First thing is to go to your profile options and hit Design. The key to designing your own page is to totally ignore all of the pre-made options you can see:

Take a look at the two options at the bottom, and go to the background button. Now, you will need your own background for this, but it’s easy enough to do. Take your logo, and open your graphics editor of choice. We use Photoshop, but not everyone has access to that software. Create a new image, 1920×1080. This covers all the bases. It’s large enough that it’ll fill out the screen on most monitors, without being so big that it creates a slow loading time. We chose a light grey background colour as it matches the site (take a glance to the right… see?). We then placed our logo and a few choice words underneath, along with some striking patterns to hold attention next to them. Once you’ve made this background, upload and select it using the backgrounds tab:

If you’ve made a smaller background, you might want to tile it so that it repeats across the screen. Don’t do this for large images, it makes it look very untidy!

That done, you need to change the text and boxes to the right of the Twitter Feed. Just play around with the colours until you find something that matches your custom background. After some playing around, we came up with this colour combination:

Save all your changes, and then take a look! Your Twitter profile is now personalised with your own brand and look!
